English Witches

What strikes me as the most amazing about Advanced English papers was perhaps the INTENSE SIMILARITY to our trial questions.

So now I ask myself, why oh why did I do Suu Kyi when it was last year? I should have done Bandler after the English predicted it would be Bandler. Stupid Alysha.

---

Was writing drama essay (last minute i know, seeing as the exam is tomorrow) and i was trying to remember this word, it's like origami but with cloth, and was like desperately thinking back to my year 8 obession with it and i was like... furoshiki? that sounds wrong.

Then i waited like HALF AN HOUR for my slow internet search to reveal the answer AND I WAS RIGHT!

I was amazed. lol.

---

I feel like eating steak. I dunno why. Perhaps its the innate fear of going vegan that my mum is threatening me with.

Today she cooked chinese vegetarian noodles. No eggs, no meat. Just chives and bean shoots (g-nah choi, or however you say it. i dunno. blame my malay-accented canto that i grew up with)

She's holding firm to her decision.

I can't say it tasted bad, cause it was good.

But I want steak for some reason.

STEEEEEEEEEAAAAAAAAK.

But I've always like soy milk. Soy milk is nice. :)

I think soy milk is nicer in coffees. I always pay the extra 50c or whatever to get soy, because it makes the coffee naturally sweeter, so you don't have to add sugar. And also, it's better for you. Yay soy!

Wow, i sound like those prentious dieters.

RL, I'll try not to be a prentious vegan. On the other side, if I did become vegan, I could go to vegan academy and get superpowers and be like that guy from Scott Pilgrim vs the World, all pretentious and super powered.

and i can be like "I part take in nothing that is, or comes from, nor the ovum, of anything with a face. Short story: Being vegan makes you better than most people." JUST LIKE THE FLOATING GUY FROM SCOTT PILGRIM

---

Also, freakin Tite Kubo. "series ending soon? TIME TO KILL ALL THE MAIN CHARACTERS!" (Insert troll face here.)

---
"OH MICKEY YOU SO FINE, '
YOU SO FINE YOU FLY THROUGH TIME
HEY MICKEY!!! YEAH YEAH
OH MICKEY DOCTOR GOT ROSE,
DOCTOR GOT ROSE, SO GO WITH MARTHA JONES
HEY MICKEY!! YEAH YEAH

LOL.

yes i wrote that. yes i'm sad. yes i should do drama.

bye guys.

I spent an embarrassing amount of time on that.

Paper 2! 17 days to go! 6 exams to go!

I actually was thinking about my nano when I was trying to sleep last night, thinking of basic plots and such. I'm actually really excited about it! :)

hehehe

Anyway, i'm going to go watch a very potter musical again, cause i'm so lame AWESOME.

Then will write drama practise essay.

yeah.

Also, found this article about an alternate ending to the pond farewell. :( POOR MR WEASLEY MR WILLIAMS!!!! (hurhurhur)

Also, my internet is capped, SO EVERYTHING IS SUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUPEER SLOW. LAME LAMETY LAME LAME.

Although maybe it's a good thing, because i might actually study.

Last soup kitchen before HSC

Will genuinely miss it.

haven't posted in a while. didn't post any sentimental stuff about school ending, though i intended to.

I did bawl my eyes out though.

When that last bell rang on thursday, i realised it was the end of school for reals. And then i cried. lol.

so weak.

Also, tried out that new cafe in parra called platform 8. it's kinda funky looking. The chairs are cool. Kinda just sat there with an ice coffee and my ext english essay and edited for ages.

I practically rewrote the thing.

Also, gangnam style is everywhere. It's freaky. It's even on mainstram english radio. in korean. not even english version like girls generation. weird.

Also, i forgot to send in my scholarship things. i'm an idiot.

Slave - er, I mean PA - day

Today, I:
- danced gangnam style 12 times
- danced the Macarena
- danced the chicken dance 8 times
- serenaded
              • miss cowghill (someone like you)
              • miss savage (nothing on you shouted across the quad)
              • a lot of random yr 7s
              • some poor yr 11 (i'm yours on a borrowed ukulele in physics.)
              • a group of year 8s on their robbed guitar (Friday)
- belted "I'm a Barbie girl" and "Friday" to a weirded out quad
- drove a physics class nuts with call me maybe
- made fart noises in a bio class
- "confiscated" someone's phone for texting in bio class
- taught a perms and combs class in math
- edited a bunch of ext1 short stories
- acted out othello
- took ancient history notes
- rapped about boudecia(?) (some british warrior queen)
- charades in ancient history based on wilu-something
- drew mr blundon in physics on the white board.
- played 'fairy tale space jump'
- played 'honey, smile for me'
- acted out Downtown :D
- talked about Yu-gi-oh with some yr7s.
- stole the soccer ball from the back oval boys in yr 11
- grabbed a guy and told him I'm pregnant (he ran away lololol)
- chased Jaewoo because I was supposed to 'dack' him.
- dackked sid (sorry dude...) [he was wearing a skirt and tights]
- dressed up in a brown Afro and the ruby moon dress from drama. Apparently I looked too much like Annie so they put make up on me
- sung the Annie "tomorrow song" to an ext1eng class.
- third wheeled a very awkward yr 11 couple (was told to)
- ran around the quad screaming "the rapture is coming! YOLO!" and grabbing people's faces.
- bursting into random classrooms shouting "did you miss me?"
- stole mr blundon's pen
- took notes and did odd jobs for teachers

overall, it was an intense, tiring experience that was actually kind of fun :p

Going once, going twice...

Lots of things have happened recently, but I haven't written much for a while...

It was UNSW open day last saturday. Was really quite good, I got to play quidditch! :D I was a chaser, it was kinda cool. We played against the uni team and we tied, 30 each, by the end of the game. We didn't score any points though. (the snitch is only worth 30 points in this game haha, to prevent unfair advantages for catching the snitch.)

UNSW was really tiring, actually. Having to walk up and down all those stairs... :p

But it was fun :) maybe I will seriously consider it for a uni, I dunno.

Sunday was my dad's birthday dinner night. We went for Korean BBQ buffet. I felt slightly ill afterwards... Ended up eating way too much lolololol. But it was really nice :)

Also, we had art show and HSC drama night on monday and Tuesday respectively. It was cool.

Also, I was sold for PA auctions today... Although I only went for $75, collectively our prefect group broke the $3000 mark :D double what we originally aimed for. :) it was awesome.

Also, i had amazing sugar cane juice and milk pudding today :)

Hoping that tomorrow i won't be made to do too many horrible stuff... Haha.

OOOFT NO MORE WRITTEN EXAMS.

YAYERS!

although i'm still not free askjasdghaosiunvaowisgn cause i have drama and ext2, but hey! i don't have to see  stupid exam centre vibe anymore. I swear, that room was so much less menacing for trivia night :p

anyway, i basically didn't study for legal, so i think i did pretty badly lol. I just made up things for my two essays. Oh well. At least i sort of answered the question. Maybe.

I did pretty badly in 2nd drama essay though. ergh.

Oh well.

So instead of thinking of that, or my ext2, or my drama prac, i shall instead think of cool happy thoughts, like what i will do after exams!

For example, i could watch doctor who and read manga again, insteading of studying.

Oh wait, i'm doing that anyway.

King of hard work!

Not.

At any rate, i'm looking forward to Live Aid, but i have a bit of a feeling i will suck haha.

here's some amazing girl i found today

I really liked her arrangement, it was really cool :D

So yes.
---

ALSO THERE IS A MASSIVE SALE AT TYPO, IT'S SO GOOD.

I really wanted to buy the $10 lantern set, i've wanted it for so long... alas i have no cash. aha.

It's ok. I'll get 3 jobs after i do hsc. Then i can online shop as much as i want. >:D

ETSY DOCTOR WHO MERCH HERE I COME!

I have become quite the Etsy addict. I check it periodically every 3 or so hours.

Unfortunately, all the people that appear to make good doctor who/nerd stuff either live in England or Ameria.

Are there no arty geeks in Australia?????????

Anyway here's some of the cool stuff i found.

I  know, I have weird tastes.

Have fun guys!

Trivia night

lol when i came home i was so tired i was falling asleep in the shower, falling asleep while blowdrying hair, i'm amazing.

although that was after i ate four slices of pizza. :p

TRIVIA NIGHT WAS AWESOME!!!!

although we didn't win, we still did pretty well, and we certainly played the best pictionary game in quite possible the entire world.

and lol sports section.

awful.

---

I showed my mum nyan cat today. she thought it was the dumbest thing ever.

So naturally this made me want to learn to play it on piano.

haha.

you can get the sheet music here if you're interested.

---

I've been trying to not drink coffee, so i decided to drink chai lattes instead.

And then, cause i felt like it, i put a heart on it.

And then, cause i felt like it, i put it on my blog.

(my room is messy)

---

anyway, some lols while i go finish ext2.

I saw this and all i thought was "NAVIGATING THE GLOBAL !@#%&#^%(*!u)!(@#"

AND OF COURSE. SOME DOCTOR WHO.

Just felt so bludgy...

Felt so bludgy today. Barely did anywork. Watched This Means War (Which i really loved, i personally would have made a different choice, but then again, i do have a sort of bias.)

Also I have recently fallen in love with this british singer who does a duet with this rapper who's also british. I think it's the only rap i'll be willing to listen to. Might be because he's so sweet and his accent is delicious.

The singer's name is Sid Bowden, and the rapper's name is Joe Turone.

I think I love them. They're beautiful. :)

This song is the first one i listened to, i nearly cried, immediately followed them and liked the facebook page.

I'm gone. New favourite non-record-holding band. :D

But the song was so beautiful, really, makes me want to cover it. :)

-----

Ever woken up late? I do every day! (Guess that's not really late anymore, if its everyday haha.)

Anyway, here's how to manage that awful bed head regardless of how you appear.

---

Also my Church was on masterchef as the guest audience in the Yum Cha challenge.

It was kinda funny hearing all the white people who were interviewed saying it was really tasty because my mum kept screaming "NO IT WASN'T IT WAS SO BAD!"

But yeah, my sister was on alot, she got a least a minute worth of filming? So cool. :)

And the entire episode my family kept standing up and screaming "OMG IT'S ________!!! LOOK LOOK THERE BEHIND THE GWEILO!!!!" in canto haha.

and my mum kept calling up my grandma and screaming in chinese "did you see my daughter? My daughter was on television! WHAT DO YOU MEAN YOU DON'T BELIEVE ME I TOLD YOU TO WATCH IT!!!"

haha.

Apparently my grandma was cooking instead. :) She doesn't like Masterchef, she thinks its silly.

---

My mum says the coolest things. We were talking about gowgee because i really wanted soup noodles, and then we were talking about lord of the rings and my mum was like "yea, frodo and sam gowgee."

i nearly died laughing.

Frodo Baggins and Samwise Gowgee. (Y)

We ended up discussing an entire line of Lord of the Rings yumcha, with silly names that made no sense, because the only one that had anything remotely to do with it was SAMWISE GOWGEE.

---

Also, Tri-schools is coming! Am excite. :)

B-A-U-L-K-O YEAH!

School today was cool.

Double free today. Studied English in the grass. I think there's nothing nicer than just sitting in the grass and reading, feeling the sun and the breeze. The sun is so nice. I guess vitamin D is good for you after all, so it's all right. As long I don't burn. I burn quite easily.

I like the smell of grass. Grass smells nice. Especially grass that's been slightly crushed from my elbow as I lean on it. Although commenting on the nice smell of grass makes me think of Tangled when Rapunzel when she gets out of her tower for the first time.

"just smell the grass, the dirt, just liked I dreamed they'd be..."

I love disney :D

I really am happy we only have to do two speeches for essay. Now I can do Atwood and Suu Kyi's speeches without having to find another link with another speech. :) love their speeches, such powerful speeches on women. Although Atwoods is the best. :D

But sedat isn't too bad. I admire his push for peace. I could relate that and Suu Kyi.

... The problem I find with English essays is that i have too much to wirte and I have nowhere to start.

So in Drama we had to hand in a 300+ word piece about why we want to perform the piece we want to perform.

Basically you have to crap about stuff.

Just thought I'd show you what I wrote and what I mean.

-----
Student: Alysha Mah
Individual project type: Monologue
Title of project: Edith Piaf from Songs for Nobodies

1.      Whyyou choose this particular project?

On Sheet Answer: I chose to perform a monologue because I really like performing. I find that performing allows me to express personal thoughts and emotions. Performing is alsoa great outlet for my creativity and stress, a real benefit to any HSC student.

I took along time to decide on any particular piece, as I was struggling to find a piece I really identified with. When I went to watch Songs for nobodies I was really moved by the Piaf section, as I havealways held a great admiration for Piaf as a vocalist.

The monologueI chose is particularly unique as it involves singing as part of the performance.I have a great love for musical performance. Thus I felt that by finding apiece that combines both dramatic and musical performance was something that I greatly desired to perform.

What I was actually thinking: Originally, I wanted to not perfom at all. I wanted to send in written work on a costume design concept. I was really excited about it. But I couldn’t get my costume design concept right. I kept getting shut down. Then I got so fed up with it I burnt it all and went to do monologue. I chose a monologue with song in it because I would stand out. That’s it.

2.      Whatare your strengths in that field?

On Sheet Answer: In terms of the musical aspect of my individual project, I have studied music ever since I was six years old. I have performed music in concerts, including in bands, piano recitals, and vocal performances since I was seven. In terms of vocal performances, I also have experience in the area, composing my own pieces and performing at school concerts, church services, and gigs. I have also won singing competitions.

In terms ofthe monologue itself, I have a reasonable ability to maintain a British accent, which is what is called for in the monologue. It also requires transformational acting, which I have experience in due to previous performances.

What i was actually thinking: I think I can sing. Gigs basically mean performing at relative's weddings and birthday parties. Singing competition was in 4th grade where i came first in a talent contest. And the British accent is the only one I can maintain for long enough, other than “stupid bitchy American girl” accent.

3.      Howyou are preparing that project?

On Sheet Answer:I am preparing for the project by watching English television shows to studydifferent English accents. I am also going to a vocal tutor to attempt to trainmy voice as to properly imitate Edith Piaf’s singing style.

What I was actually thinking: LOL WHAT PREPARATION? I've read the script once, talked to a friend who teaches music who randomly meets up with at church, and watch a lot of Doctor Who.

DOCTOR WHO IS TEH GREATEST!!!!!

GET IT? CAUSE THE DOCTOR HAS TWO HEARTS???? HAHAHAHAHAHA.
